In December 1995, the family took their business to Buka by outboard motor from Mamagota beach in Siwai and settled initially at Kubu got it registered and started operating a wholesale business from a container. Later when the sanctions were eased people started traveling to Rabaul to buy goods. These goods were bought from across the border in Solomon Islands, due to the sanctions imposed by the national government as the consequence of the Bougainville crisis. Owned by the Huuma family who first opened shop in 1992 during the time of the conflict on Bougainville, from a little set under their family home selling basic items like soap, salt, and food items like rice, sugar, and tinned food to now becoming a renowned brand in the region. Jomik operates wholesale outlets in Buka, Kokopau and Arawa, as well as hardware and a retail department store in Buka.
